My Holiday

Monday 29th July 2013
My Holiday

Last week of the two week holiday I went to the holiday programme at the St Pius x hall, the holiday programme was run by Halamehi. I found out about the programme from Pauliasi when I saw him at rugby training so I told my mum that I will be going there for the last.

At the holiday programme we played games. My favourite game was capture the flag.  We have to defend our flag and try to capture the other teams flag at the same time .

Sefesi- LEVEL 2 MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION

Show how you work out these problems.

1.  A gardener planted 7 rows of cabbages.  Each row has 5 cabbages.  How many cabbages did plant altogether?

5 x 7 = 35
5,10,15,20,25,30 ,35

2.  I have 5 bags of lollies.  Each bag has 10 lollies.  How many lollies do I have in each bag?

5 x 10 = 50

50 ÷ 10 = 5

3.   I have 24 pencils to put into 4 pencil cases.  How many pencils in each case?

6 x 4 = 24
24 ÷ 6 = 4

4.  There are 30 apples to put into 3 boxes.  How many apples will be in each box?

10 x 3 = 30

30 ÷ 10 = 3

Sefesi-LEVEL 2 FRACTION

I am learning to solve fraction using halving and doubling at level 2

1. Tipene has 16 playstation games.  He gives half of them to his brother. games.  How many games did he give to his brother?
8 + 8 = 16  OR 16 SHARE INTO 2 PARTS = 8
½ OF 16 IS 8

2.  Jodi buys 24K-bars. She gives a quarter (1/4) to his brother.  How many did she give to her brother.

she give his brother 6 bars which equal 1 quarter of 24 because 6 is one quarter of 24.
24 is shared into 4 equal groups.  How many do you get?

3.  Ihipera has 15 picture books. She gives a third (1/3) of them away to a friend.  How many picture books did she give away?
she gave away 5 books because I know that a third of 15 equal 5 and I use reversibility
3 x 5 = 15

15 is shared into 3 equal groups.  How many in each.

Sefesi I can see that you are not sure of fraction.  We will do more of it next term.  POST

maths LEVEL 2 ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION

I am leaning to solve Addition and Subtraction using place value at level 2

1.
There are 21 people at a beach, and 13 more people arrive.
Show how to work out how many people are at the beach altogether
10 + 20 = 30                  3+1= 4   ( Place Value )
30 + 4 = 34 YES Sefesi,  this is great!

2
Two classes go on camp together. One class has 47 students and the other has 38.
Show how to work out how many students go on camp
40 + 30 = 70  --- 47 + 38 = ?
8 + 7 = 15
70 + 15 = 85
The answer is correct.   Your next step is to use another strategy.
Can you see another easy way?

3.   A farmer has 63 cows.  He buys 39 more cows.
Show how to work out how many cows he has altogether.
63 + 39 =
60 + 30 = 90
3 + 9 = 12
90 + 12 = 102

Same thing with this one.  Can you see a different way.  It will be easier.
